Head Teacher’s Welcome

Mount Pleasant Primary School is going through one of the most exciting times in its history with children achieving the best ever results and the school being completely rebuilt into a brand new state of the art education facility.

Whilst overseeing the design, planning and development of the temporary and new builds, I have witnessed first-hand the challenges that the contractors have had to manage. Despite the many obstacles, I am pleased to be able to confirm that the work is going according to schedule. The temporary accommodation will be ready for September as the children return to school on the first day of their new academic year.

Over the next 15 to 20 months, the old school will be demolished and replaced with an amazing purpose built modern structure. This will provide exceptional facilities and will be equipped with the very best resources through which we will deliver an outstanding curriculum to our children.

Please visit the ‘New Build’ page on our website regularly to view the latest updates and photographs of the building work as it progresses through the various stages. The website highlights our school’s vision whilst providing an insight to our many successes. By visiting the ‘Classes’ page you will be able to see the exciting opportunities our pupils have throughout their time at Mount Pleasant as we continue on our journey from Good to Outstanding.

“Diverse and exciting activities in lessons, particularly opportunities to work collaboratively, engage pupils’ interest and enthusiasm.”

“Excellent relationships between staff and pupils, and consistently high expectations of hard work and behaviour, underpin the good progress pupils make.”

I am privileged to have the opportunity of leading an excellent team over the past year; a team that continues in its commitment to achieve the highest standards as demonstrated in our end of year pupil outcomes.

Last December we celebrated our BEST EVER end of Key Stage 2 SATs results, with children making outstanding progress achieving higher than National as well as Kirklees expectations for Reading, Writing and Maths. (Full details of the results available by clicking here)

Furthermore, in July 2016, we received provisional confirmation that our pupil outcomes were even better than the previous year with the school doing far better than National. See below:

2016 Results Our School    National
Y6 Reading 72% 66%
Y6 Writing 81% 74%
Y6 Maths 69% 70%
Y6 SPAG 76% 72%
Y6 Combined 58% 53%

Our professional staff, supported by experienced governors work very hard to ensure the children achieve their potential by instilling a firm belief in our school motto of ‘Think Big – Aim High’. This is achieved through delivering a rich and challenging curriculum which enables our children to acquire the necessary skills and enthusiasm needed to become successful, responsible and active citizens of modern Britain.

If you are excited by what you have read and would like to know more about what Mount Pleasant has to offer, we would welcome you to visit our school and see the staff and children in action. Feel free to call the school office on 01484 223198 to arrange a visit.

Finally I would just like to say that if, as a parent of a pupil attending this school, you require a paper copy of any information on this website, please contact the school office and we shall provide this to you free of charge.
